Sai Gon Bien Hoa Eye Hospital will begin a seminar series titled “Myopia Control” on December 21, 2025, dedicated to students and parents in Dong Nai. The program aims to raise community awareness and popularize advanced myopia control methods so that parents can provide timely intervention for their children.

1. The Situation of Refractive Errors Among Students in Dong Nai
Results from eye examination campaigns at schools such as Ha Huy Giap and Nguyen Thai Hoc show a rapid increase in the rate of students with vision issues. Many children are recorded as having myopia from a very young age, increasing the risk of progression throughout each school year.
According to MSc. Dr. Le Thai Minh Hieu, approximately 80% of children screened show signs of myopia. Without proper monitoring and control, children may face serious vision problems later in life, such as macular degeneration, retinal detachment, or cataracts.
The reality in Dong Nai reflects the general trend across the country. Currently, Vietnam has about 6.7 million children with myopia (accounting for 30% of the youth population), a figure projected to rise to 10 million by 2050. Despite this, the rate of children accessing intensive control measures remains below 2%.
Faced with this urgent situation, Sai Gon Bien Hoa Eye Hospital has placed the improvement of eye care awareness at the center of its mission by launching the “Myopia Control” seminar series right at the hospital lobby.
